While your Significant Other is Away.

Your honey-bun is away. You're sad, lonely, and missing them while they are doing their military duties. Wipe those tears away because there are so many things you can do to keep yourself occupied!

Being in a military relationship taught me many things. It taught me to be independant, creative, and to spend more time with family/friends--people who are going to cheer you up.

Here is a list of suggestions you should try:

10) Baking- I'm a baker. I enjoy putting time and effort into something that will put a smile on people's faces. Here is a picture of my Camo-cookies. When I gave them to my soldier--he loved them. If you'd like to know how I made them--comment below or e-mail me!

9)Pets- spend time with your pets and if you don't have one adopt one from an animal shelter. Not only do they keep you company but they make great companions.
8) Treat yourself- do something that you enjoy doing. If you like going shopping-go to the nearest mall. If you enjoy singing and dancing-get up and dance your bottom away!
7) Use a Diary/journal - there were many times where I felt really down and writing down my thoughts helped me get through many obstacles in life. Write your heart away about how much you miss your honey-bun. It takes a load off of everything and when you're done it makes you feel better. If that doesn't work, go outside and SCREAM your lungs away.
6)Music- I know many people who use music to either relate with their honey-buns, or help them cope with things.
5) volunteer- the worst thing a person can do is not be active because they feel down about their S/O being away. There are many places that need volunteering, for example, the library, school, church, and non-profit organizations. Not only will you meet new people but you'll learn something new and it looks great on your resumé!

4) Forums- Join a military forum that best relates to you. There are numerous military forums on the net that you can talk to and relate with. Just Google "Military Significant other" or "military girlfriend". There are great potential friends who are probably going through the same things you are.

3)Work-out - YES! Not many like to hear the dreaded word but when you join a gym (if you're in college use your gym's facility--your tuition covers it! So, take advantage of it) not only will you feel better about yourself but you will make yoursef look good when your babe comes back.

2)Stay busy- whether you need to do school work, or work-work. Stay busy. Don't let your mind wonder because sometimes that's when you end up missing them the most.

1)Keep communication- You are allowed to leave your S/O a voice message or even writing him on FB message (e-mail). It shows that you care and that you DO miss them. Even if they can't pick up the phone because they're doing their jobs--when they can. The messages (whether it's read or heard) will put a smile on their faces!

Hope these suggestions helped and believe me you don't have to go by the list. Some of these suggestions work for some people and not others. Please, have fun and don't fret. They will be home before you know it!

The big question: Why make blogs about surviving military relationships? It is simple!

Here are a few reasons:
  • Need advice
  • Never been in a military relationship
  • Don't know the first thing about being in a military relationship
  • Want to relate to others who have gone through it
  • And the most important one of all-- you MISS your significant other!

I know, I understand. Military relationships are super hard, how do you deal with it?

This is the first of many blogs that will come from balls to deployment packages and much more! Make sure to subscribe and if you have something that MUST be put here-- Don't be scared to tell us what we need to cover!
